I never heard it until Frank Gorshon became 'The Riddler'.

  • I couldn't find anyone who wanted credit for it before The Riddler, so he gets the credit. :)

It happened in the Garden of Eden when Eve asked Adam what an apple was?

What's green and tart and has a hole with a worm in it?  Everyone knows this story.  Then God got mad and gave Adam a worm and Eve a hole.  And they became ashamed. It made the sex more exciting.

I think it is probably a phrase of long standing. The phrase was also uttered in a long past episode of Magnum PI - in that instance by a sad case that Magnum had done a job for years before - if anyone but me remembers that episode. Out of all that genre of TV drama I used to particularly enjoy Magnum PI.  This post was edited by rattbagge at January 15, 2018 3:06 PM MST
