Why is it that so few members of this website seem to understand the proper use of the "Tags (Keywords)" field when they post something? ~

There are four main fillable fields that are available when posting in the  main room on this website.  The first two fields are mandatory; "Category" and "Discussion Title".  The third and final available fields are not mandatory, they are: "Tags (Keywords)" and the "Description Field".

After assigning a category and typing their question, some people then use the "Tags (Keywords)" field to re-type their entire question, instead of simply entering keywords, also known as tags.

Huh? Before understanding proper use we need to understand this question. This post was edited by O-uknow at January 1, 2018 5:45 AM MST

Okay, I got it. Explain to them that a tag is equivalent to a search word they would use in Google. Complete sentences are unnecessary.

I agree.  I write as I speak.  This is not a good habit to get into.  I've been trying to break it for years.

In all the time I've been here, I've never used the "tag" field. I'm not sure I really see the importance in tagging a question. I've never done a search for words, rather, I've simply thumbed through the questions.

I agree with this one too.  When I go to questions, like now, I use the blue search under "questions by category."  This is why I rarely get past the "As" or animals questions.

Understanding is in general not something that many people comprehend at all.

Are you suggesting some of us are under par when it comes to literacy?

What is the purpose of 'Tags'?

The intended purpose, if the search feature worked, would be for people to be able to go directly to the posts, replies, comments and blogs that contain it. However, the search feature is one of the items on Just Asking's to-do fixed-upper list. In the meantime, if people would type keywords into it and not fill questions, it will be ready when the fix comes in.

Owe, eye sea. It isn't currently in the works but it has been placed on the list. I don't know how long the list is or which projects on it take priority over others.  As in many things, it depends on funds and time.
