(Not only shops). It ensures I complete whatever I am there for as soon as possible, and escape! The Co-op plays so-called Co-op Radio but it's only strings of pop songs interspersed with advertisements for the shop and its goods.
Worse, although you are normally only in there for a few minutes, are the Gents' toilets in motorway service stations, where some b====y fool decided it clever to play this non-stop sonic pap more loudly than anywhere else in these horrible establishments.
I find it I intrusive and irritating. No-one needs it except in the minds of the directors who imaging it's for our own - or the company's own - good. Maybe it's liked by those unfortunate souls unable even to cope with a 10-minute bus trip without hiding between headphones.
I like music - but of my choosing, and when and how I wish.
