    Many, many, many times.  It's part and parcel of life in Michigan.

    Wow. They can be scary. It never snows here in South Eastern Georgia, but this year it did. We are now in an ice storm. All the bamboo trees have been bent in half from the ice, and everything has ice crystals on it. Its beautiful, but very unusual. I feel like an alien from another planet seeing all this for the first time. LOL

    It is very beautiful.  They can be very dangerous, too.  Power outages and car accidents are common with ice storms.

    Ice changes what I would have replied on your other question...though I would still bundle him up and go out and get some pictures of him with the iced trees as a backdrop and save those pictures for him.  Then continue with hot chocolate, lunch, and a nap.  :)

    They are beautiful! 

    I don't know if you have ever seen Niagara Falls in the winter, but the mist from the water turns all the trees into glass sculptures.

    It was a long time ago since I have been there, winter or summer.  But the winter trip was memorable.  It was truly magical.

  • Nope. We have earthquakes here, but our weather is relatively mild. I've experienced what one might call a "blizzard" in Tahoe, but it was short-lived, and never experienced a real ice-storm or more than a few inches at a time (and snow only up in the mountains).

  • .Yes, February 2015. A hickory tree behind my house broke apart and landed in the middle of the roof. Also, we had a minor earthquake the same day. The epicenter was about 50 miles away.

    Yes and it's very scary!  I once skidded into a ditch and was only driving about 15 mph.  Our place of employment refused to close down.  I was so scared and sat in that ditch for at least a half hour.  This was before I had a cell phone.  Luckily a truck full of nice guys finally came along and pushed me out.  But I was fit to be tied that any of us were made to report to work.  I was a single mom and could not afford to "call out".

    Yes, twice and they were serious storms.  I believe it's the most beautiful my neighborhood ever looked.  Every little twig was encased by ice.  We went outside during the night and was taken aback by the beauty, and the sparkling, and the cracking sounds coming from everywhere.  I made the kids come in because I worried about limbs falling from the weight of the ice.  They had another back home since I left.  The reports I got about it were very similar.

    Not an ice storm, but freezing rain for a week. Shrubs were crushed under the weight. It was not fun.

    Yes, many times, actually.   But the good news is it was in the City of Chicago and again in the surrounding suburbs, so while everyone was in the same boat, everyone was there for each other in case anything got out of control bad.

    But, being frozen solid is not that fun no matter how it happens to you.  Cabin fever and the feeling of disorientation are not far behind when you are trapped.
