When you are doing too much daydreaming what do you do to try bring your mind back to a more realistic perspective of reality?

  • make a list of things to get done, then get them done, then get back to dreaming.

That might work -at least get the list made anyway.

Right now I am sitting in my living room and my hair is wet due to the heat in here.

That is reality for me right now.  I see rain clouds, and am hoping for some of it to cool

    this place off.

We are covered by rain clouds right now where I live.
I'll have the wind blow them your way.

  • works for me! =)

if all you get is the list made, you could daydream, then tick one off the list, then daydream, then tick one off the list.... (and so on...)

  • Pay attention to my sensory perceptions.

Notice every aspect of the environment and what's going on around me.

Bring my mind to the task at hand.

That would be nice, thanks.  The cloud cover has helped plus I watered down my roof a couple of times.

I have to go somewhere later, my car is like an oven.  I can't seem to get away from the heat in the summer and the cold in the winter. We old folks can't take it like we used to.

Do send your rain this way.

Stand up, do two cartwheels, and then run up and down the stairs four times....................works every time.

Doing the cartwheels made me dizzy and I fell down the stairs trying to run up.

    Meditative awareness.
So when there are excessive thoughts, focusing on the breath
As it comes in and goes out will usually maintain the silence within.
    ...if the thoughts are incessant,
There is a mantra within the breath...SoHam... When silence
    Returns drop the mantra.
    ...anyway that's what I do.

  • like. Vipassana uses similar technique. :)

However, I often rather like having a mind tumbling with thoughts.

I use is more if the type of thoughts is not helpful.
