Why is it always "top 10" ?

Why not Top 4, or top 7, ot Top 16 ?

It must be difficult to always have to find exactly 10 noteworthy examples in some category


Top 10 Most Expensive Sneakers In The World
Top 10 Most Beautiful Canal Cities In The World
Top 10 Airlines with Most Beautiful Flight Attendants
Well OK, today there was a "Top 9":

    We learn to count in series of ten so quite naturally we think that way as well.  Top Ten, Top 100, Top 40, Top Twenty etc. - all multiples of 10.  All used primarily to advertise and sell whatever retailers have stocked too much of and want to get rid of.
