    Not singers but speakers.

Composer Steve Reich took recordings of various people talking about their experiences of riding trains during the World War II years -- trains of different kinds and from various parts of the world. Reich then matched pitches and rhythms of the speakers' words to various stringed instruments (performed by the Kronos Quartet; I believe this is the premiere recording of the work). It's a wonderful listening experience --  and sobering. He includes survivors of the trains of the Holocaust.

This is just Part One, I believe, and it contains trains in America during that time.
