If it is not soft white bread then it is not French Toast.

Artesano bakery bread and Sweet Hawaiian bread, thickly sliced.  Both are forms of white breads.

Simple, thick ones that let the batter be the star.   I've tried it with flavored bread, but it is too much.  It is best with plain white bread like Texas Toast and soak it and fry it and soak it again and fry it.  Or bake it even.

But that is my idea for the best French.
