The theme from Platoon, which I first heard played at Princess Grace's funeral - Adagio for Strings, Samuel Barber. One of the most hauntingly beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard.
Which was the slow movement of his String Quartet which he arranged for string orchestra at the suggestion of the conductor Toscanini. Later he put words and arranged it for chorus.
Aimee Mann wrote the song (and sings a wonderful solo version of it on the soundtrack album) but this sequence is one of the best sequences in any film I've seen. Out of nowhere, all the cast members (portraying people whose lives sometimes intertwine) start singing the song along with Aimee on the film soundtrack. So, the singing artists are the actors and actresses you see in the film sequence, along with songwriter Aimee Mann.
And 'magnolia' is one of my favorite movies with an all-star cast . . . hmmm . . I think I saw something about that topic just now. ;)
