Trump really needed cue cards to remind himself to say "I hear you", when meeting with the students over the mass shooting?

https://fox5sandiego.com/2018/02/22/trumps-note-card-for-parkland-shooting-discussion-i-hear-you/

This blows me away.  The pictures are not photoshopped and this story can be found at many different sources including Fox News.
I would think you would NOT need notes to remind yourself to show compassion.

WOW! Just wow! Kinda pathetic when you have cue cards to remind you to have some empathy for others. smh

Obviously Trump wanted to make sure he conveyed emotion, but it is confounding to me that most normal people don't need to do this.  If you speak from the heart to begin with, you don't need any notes to remind you to do it.

Maybe he has memory problems and needed the notes so he could remember who he was talking to.

Ha!  You mean he needed to be reminded that he wasn't speaking to the media or anyone else where he normally would spout off?  Poor guy.  Some things simply don't come natural.

Well yeah. How bad would it be if he asked who they were and what shooting?

I'm sure he was up all night studying that one.  I noticed the kids that were selected were very respectful and complimentary to the president.  But when the mic went to some of the parents, the gloves came off.

He says he will make it harder to get a gun, but then said he wants to arm teachers.  I don't think that is a solution at all. This post was edited by PeaPod is just popping by at February 22, 2018 9:37 PM MST

As a parent I would be upset too.
No one thinks that when you say goodbye to their kids as they go off to school it will be the last time you will ever see them again.

I remember when the shooting happened in Aurora Colorado years ago, my grandson was supposed to go see the movie with his aunt and cousin. Thankfully he decided NOT to go. Had he gone my grandson, who I was raising might have been killed or injured. I was so glad to know he was home safe. I could NOT imagine what these parents have gone through. Such a nightmare. :(

How scary SA.  What a blessing he wasn't there.  I keep thinking about all the kids that now suffer PTSD from seeing others violently killed or injured in these things.  School was rough enough in the day without all this.

So they told him the words that sound more emphathic. If it is not how you normally talk, it does not hurt to have reminders. Especially knowing that if he were to word something wrong the media would only talk about that rather than what he is actually trying to do.
I know I personally have never used the phrase "I hear you" in conversation.

Just sad.  I think most of us are capable of showing compassion without notes.  "I hear you" may not be my normal choice of words either, but I am certain I can convey empathy for others.  The previous presidents seem to have no issue with this, regardless if they were Republican or Democrat.

True and I think in a one on one situation or one not on film, he would not have worried so much about the right words. But given how the media makes nothing into a mountain. He was smart for using their approved phrases.
Remember when he called the widow and tried to say what Kelly had told him? That your husband knew what he was signing up for and still was courageous and fought for his country anyway.
He learned from that and did not want to word it wrong or say something that could be twisted to mean something else, again.

I don't remember any previous President doing anything like this.  This post was edited by my2cents at February 22, 2018 4:58 PM MST

I know you and I will likely never agree on this, but whatever bad press this man has gotten has been at his own hand.  I do know the media gets it wrong...a lot.  I used to see it with Obama and other past presidents.

But my statement stands.  Compassion is not something you need a cue card with imho.

I was taught empathy as a child. My mom and dad both taught me that respect for others mattered. I didn't know the word, but I KNEW the action.
I don't know what to think of a grown man, who has never learned how to have a heart. He's NOT a child who has to be reminded to show respect to somebody. But, I guess it's better to have cue cards than to have him stick his foot in his mouth!! This post was edited by SA (SuperA) at February 22, 2018 11:16 PM MST

He hasn't shown empathy for anyone else so why should we think he would for the kids in that meeting?

I think this is a good part of why I cannot see any potential good with him.  I see nothing but greed and a self serving agenda.

Everyone forgets he used to be a liberal until he had a chance (and money) to run for the Republicans.  Guess the liberals didn't want him.

I really is that simple.  Why do you suppose he is dismantling everything Obama accomplished?  Because he wants the backing of some very wealthy companies.  It takes guts to go us against the NRA and anyone that thinks Trump is going to change after this horrific school shooting is kidding themselves.  If anything, he is using this to promote more gun sales.

I just called you Sara Huckabee in another answer on this thread.  I'm sure you will take it as a compliment.
