On modern-day movie sets, do directors really shout, "Lights, camera, action!" before filming a scene?

In fact, was it ever really shouted at all at any time during filmmaking history, or is that just a myth?

They shout "Action" and if you do not show action, you are replaced.

    Period.

I hope that sign actually existed and is not just a photocropped/shopped? Whatever the word is.
