Sitting here at lunchtime trying to think of some good questions to post, something just occurred to me:

When you open a bottle of water by twisting off the screw cap, do  always do it with your dominant hand?  I wondered about it, so I switched hands to experiment.
I'm right handed, so holding the bottle in my right hand instead of my left hand like I normally do, I tried to unscrew the cap with my left hand. Even though I was able to do it, and with ease, it felt EXTREMELY awkward!  It made me wonder if for my entire life have I always used my right hand to open bottles?  Spooky, right?  By the way, I'll bet you've just tried it yourself before reading this whole thing, and if not, I'll bet you were already planning to try it once you've finished reading it. The suggestion of power. Backwards written it's, yes.

Yeah, so, that's what "dominant" means. Which word don't you understand?

I didn't ask about a word or any words. What is it that you don't understand?

  • Do I really need to give you a list of the mistakes?

  • "When I was younger, I used to do that sort of thing all the time."

Interesting little story ... during a physical examination,
I was given a hand grip strength test and the nurse said
I was the only patient that she'd ever seen that tested
with the same grip result for each hand.  (true story)

... Even with all that practice, my "major" hand
always felt more comfortable to use.

  • Doing stuff with my left hand that I'd normally do with my right. (open door, bowling, hand writing, etc.)

I do use my dominant (right) hand for opening bottles and jars, but I use my non-dominant (left) hand to screw the lid back on the coffee pot at work after I rinse out.

With both of my wrists messed up, I switch hands depending on which hurts less on any given day. In any case, the water always seems to pour out of the top when I squeeze the bottle.

The cheap generic bottles are very thin with tight tops. One must hold the bottle tight to open it. Especially when I use my left hand as I have little feeling in my fingers.

  • Take a pocket knife and cut the little tabs, holding the cap, and it will open very easily. I do it all the time ... only takes a second. :)

I drink quite a few bottles each day and I open them with either hand.  I've actually noticed that before.

    I use a tool.

I have a bottle opener I got from my scum brother's ex-girlfriend, who is a very nice woman, but made my scumbucket brother pay for the opener.

It was for my mom.  It is a pampered chef bottle opener.

I need this tool because I need my hands.  They cannot get compromised by my constantly jamming the joints together to open a bottle or jar.

I'm right-handed also. And whenever an old person asks me to unscrew their bottled beverage, I always use my left hand. Just to show off. ;P
