Do you have any little birds flying around inside your house? It is a rush.

You gotta get some.  Get a few cages for their homes and leave the doors open.

  • sounds so awesome and free, but i think you're gonna need to toss the furniture and rip up the carpets... eventually. =)

i avoid unnecessary work, so i'll be sticking with my one dog who is house-trained.

    Oh GOD no.

I do a daily maintenance on my home and they are not rippers or destroyers.  They pretty much poop in their cages.  They hang there a lot as well.  I would never let any animal turn my house into a barn.

Not at the moment, but I did once have a blue tit flying around inside my bedroom. I still haven't the foggiest idea how it got in there because the window and the door were both closed. When I went into the room that evening and saw it there, I opened the window and let it out. I kept the door closed because I didn't want it to go anywhere else in the house lest the cat got it.

You know what?  You are on to something.  My little angels do not do this.  BUT I have read that parakeets will divebomb other birds that are much larger then they are.  LOL

They are like the chiuauas of the bird world I guess. They don't even know they are small.

My guys (girls) do not fly  into me.   They are terrified of coming too close. They really like me if I stay 2 feet from them.  If I get closer, they bolt.  But they do fly over my head.

It feels like I'm in another world.

    Sincerely,

The Bird Woman of Answer Mug

You had to say TIT.  You give me this great GREAT story and it has to be a TIT?

    LOL

We call them TIT somethings.  Like Titmouse.  When you tell me about a blue tit flying I am thinking of some surrealistic Dali painting floating around your room.

I didn't post it as an excuse to say "TIT", honestly. It happens to be a true story and I still remember the date when it happened (it was May 30, 2013). How it got there, however, will always remain a mystery. Lol:)

Andy, thanks for getting back to the story.  I am sorry I took it so far away, because it is really a GOOD one.  I loved that.  That is SO weird.    Thanks for sharing.  I wonder why that little guy did that and yet, here you are spreading the bird's word on here for many more ears than you ever thought back then.

    Thanks.

We have three cockatiels that get out of their cage on a daily basis to stretch their wings.

Occasionally we get a hummingbird in the house and have to watch them closely until they run out of energy and drop; gotta grab them up quickly and stick their beak into some sugar syrup to recharge them and then let them go outside. You're down to seconds after they drop before they die so you have to be on your toes. We have several feeders up and a couple of mating pairs put in an appearance every year. it gets interesting when the young hatch out and congregate at the feeders taking up every slot on each feeder. The often fight each other, viciously. It's been said that if they were the size of chickens there would be a bounty on them and now I know why.

There are people who are terrified of birds because of this stupid movie.  I was never scared one second because birds don't scare me.  Maybe eagles diving or raptors or some such but not parakeets.

That is a great story.  I didn't expect you and birds to comingle.  COOL.  Great birds, cockatiels.  Very dependent on their owner and I can't deal with that part.  I don't want to have to worry that they would freak if I had to give them away for some reason . Don't they live forever?

My favorite bird is the Hummer.  I have them around here.  I didn't know about the dropping dead and I am kind of not sure that is necessarily so.  I have only seen one dead Hummer in my life. I kept the body.  It was so cute.  And I am so weird.  Thanks Salty.

    :)

Count me as one of those terrified ones, mainly because of this movie.

Now I LOVE birds when they're outside (crows and ravens are my favorite birds) --  but when birds are flying around between my head and the ceiling it just freaks me out. And though they're not birds, I can equate bats in this category, too -- I'm freaked out if a bat is flying around inside. (Though amazingly, I've kept my head in every instance and helped the bats leave the house, injury-free.)

But I realize these instances are not what you're referring to in your question; I've not experienced any of that -- and the answers and your comments and everyone's are very interesting!

My parrots get let out every evening for dinner but they don't fly around the house. They stay on their respective cages. I have a Goffins Cockatoo, a Blue Crowned Conure, an African Grey, a Yellow Headed Amazon, a Peach Faced lovebird and a Hawkhead Parrot.

I love bats even more.  But I don't want them too close, I don't know what they will do and they have teeth not beaks and they have diseases and bat guano.

    YOU ROCK

My mom had a lady friend like this who had cages of birds.  She knew a LOT about them, I'll bet you do too.

They hang too.  I would not like poop all over, but they seem to hang in certain areas and not mess things up too much.
