Unquestionably, Jesus Christ was Jewish and observed Passover. Jesus never kept an Easter in His life! So how was this holy day changed? And who changed the day He observed, chose, and instituted as the holy day for taking His sacrificial emblems, representing His body and blood? Where is the Biblical record confirming the authority for this replacement? The internet...
I agree with the other AM-er, Easter is unbiblical and man-made... A Passover is in the Bible...
Easter is a pagan rooted holiday celebrated long before Jesus Christ was born on earth. This pagan festival has nothing to do with the death or resurrection of the Lord jesus Christ. True Christians avoid such practices as they are warned at 2Corinthians 6:17 "'therefore, get out from among them, and separate yourselves', says Jehovah, 'and quit touching the unclean thing'";
Nonsense, Passover also coincides with the Spring equinox. The crucifixion undoubtedly occurred at that time, particulatly when the Roman sop to the Jewish population was to release a prisoner at that time (usually a political prisoner convicted of a minor infraction). Passover predates anything in Europe. Of course the eggs and rabbits thing is undoubtedly Pagan, the Church in the early Middle Ages had a habit of "Christianizing" local festivals, the most obvious one being Saturnalia/Yule. Yeshua certainly wasn't born in December, otherwise the shepherds wouldn't have been outside at night - they and their flocks would have been taking shelter in that barn. But the timing of the Resurrection is authentic.
I never said the resurrection is not a valid event. However Jesus Christ instructed his followers to observe the night he instituted the Lord's evening meal, not his resurrection.(Luke 22:19)
Can we find any historical or biblical record of Jesus or His disciples keeping Easter or teaching parents and children to dye eggs and display bunnies on this holiday? Did Jesus or His apostles instruct any of His followers to worship His resurrection at sunrise on Easter Sunday—or at any other time, for that matter? If Easter were not sanctioned by Jesus or instituted by His apostles, then where did Easter come from? In other words, if Jesus were living among us today, would He keep Easter or encourage others to do so? Should you celebrate Easter? Biblically speaking, there is absolutely no connection between the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the common modern traditions related to Easter Sunday.
Where did Easter come from? Essentially, what occurred is that in order to make Christianity more attractive to non-Christians, the ancient Roman Catholic Church mixed the celebration of Jesus' resurrection with celebrations that involved spring fertility rituals. These spring fertility rituals are the source of the egg and bunny traditions. Fertility rituals is a nice way of saying pagan. Hey, if you want to keep celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday, by all means do it. Who am I to tell you what to do. But for me personally, the resurrection of Christ is something that should be celebrated every day and not just once a year. :)
