No, I prefer free press...even if they lie. We should not close the Enquirer nor any other media....it is the individuals responsibility to determine what is reliable and what is not.
The reason that unsubstantiated information is made public is because these people(so called journalists) understand that the public had rather believe a lie than the truth. I disagree with your premise. It's not my responsibility to check out the veracity of a story before it's broadcast. If you're going to air information, it's your place to defend the validity of it.
It our responsibility to know who is reliable. I personally know: Don't trust CNN especially if they have a video...they are experts at creative editing. But do I want the government or any other agency to decide to censor them or remove them from the air....no. That would certainly be abused to to favor certain candidates and to remove any opposition to candidates. Just as the Johnson amendment was used to silence the church in political matters. If they want to be considered a reliable source the news agencies will check their sources etc. We the people must be the regulators by the free market.
Nope, I don't think it's a good idea. Public radio and public television should be funded by the people who want to listen to it and who want fund it and not forced to fund it with their tax dollars. Free press all the way. I make up my own mind what I feel is truth or not truth. :)

Have you read about The Sinclair Group ru? Apparently they own tons of local TV stations around the country and recently ORDERED their anchors to read from the exact same script...word for word. Someone caught on and showed all of the anchors in unison saying the same words. There were dozens and dozens and dozens of them. The Sinclair group is currently negotiating to buy Tribune which also owns lots of local stations. I don't know if the acquisition will go through but can you even imagine being a "journalist/newscaster" and being given a script to read verbatim? Of course there are Lbberal sources like NPR and there are Conservative sources like Rushbaugh and Fox News. But you KNOW in advance they are going to be skewed/slanted to promulgate their political point of view. That's fine. But to ASSUME you are watching straight unbiased unfiltered unskewed news and see that it isn't? That is scary. Thank you for your reply and Happy Wednesday. I think the Russian-owned station on TV is called RT or something like that which I guess refers to RUSSIAN TV. GAWD help us if we copycat them here. :(
I heard the Sinclair Group mentioned on a radio news cast but I never heard the whole broadcast. I had others things going. I'll have to look into that. The city where I live there's a couple of AM radio stations that some might say conservative including myself. But the thing I like about em is, even though they lean to the conservative side, they tell you the whole news. The good, the bad, and the ugly of it. If a politician, be it a Republican, Democrat, liberal or conservative, messes up, they call em out for it just as I do. I look for completely honest and unbiased reporting but looking for it and getting it isn't as easy as it sounds. What I do is to listen to both liberal and conservative news sources then research their research, and make up my own mind. I'm not one to blindly follow or blindly believe anything. It's just the way I was built I guess. :) Oops, I put my response in the wrong place. Oh well. :)

Free press and media is a nice idea in theory. If these venues were government operated and managed, the only real difference would be that you'd be getting the government's agenda and propaganda as opposed to the news agency's agenda and propaganda. Trading one bias for another.
I think you need to seriously re-read 1984 and Brave New World. Read it slowly.
Then, if you still cannot tell one ideology from the other? I see why Trump was voted in.
Again, it is rubbed in my face, like sand in my eyes, how obtuse one can be.
FOX NEWS is teaching their sheep that big words are pompous and bad and only silly educated stupid people use them.
I will send you the video if you like. They are selling STUPID to the masses who are eating it up like candy.
So, I'll take the free thought bias anytime, honey. The free thought that allows for me choosing my selection of reading matter and sharing it in my head with my favorite smart person, me.
That, over SOME FREAK ZOMBIE TRUMP LOVER like Wayne LaPierre telling me a mantra about evil, hateful non-Christians trying to take over.
