Aren't you old enough to remember when a vast majority of products worldwide were manufactured in the US and carried the "Made in USA" label? Some people in other countries complained that that dominance was unfair to the productivity of other goods produced elsewhere. Then, the pendulum swung in the opposite direction, and "Made in China" became king.
These things are cyclic. Whichever country is top dog in the marketplace "screws" the other countries, to use your vernacular.
