If we put as much energy into solving problems than we do into politics, could we get solutions to problems faster?

When I think about the effort and amount of money spent on elections, I wonder if we wouldn't be better off if we just took a simple vote and shorten the length of the campaign with limited money.

I think about the infrastructure that could be built with the billions used on advertising.

Why can't we get our priorities in order?
