    Whether you believe someone or not is irrelevant. The purpose of an oath is so that if it is broken, we have the moral authority to punish them for breaking it. If you don't believe someone will be true to their oath, that is all the more reason why they must be made to take the oath.

    If we had complete confidence in people, oaths wouldn't be necessary. They exist because we doubt people, not because we trust people. This post was edited by Zeitgeist at May 9, 2018 1:19 AM MDT
