They can be if you do not give them a good inspection before caring a load. My son drives an 18 wheeler and is very careful to check all the equipment , including the tires, before he makes his run.
I'm always bewildered by the way people drive, especially on the interstate. When passing a big truck I speed past it so that I'm next to it a minimal amount of time. If there are several cars in the left lane ahead of me, I stay behind the truck until the car in front of me has cleared the truck and then I hit the gas and get by it. Some will just lumber along next to the truck which is something I just don't do unless I'm caught.
They scare me on inclines too; some truck drivers just terrorize car drivers by speeding up behind them and moving into the left lane way after they should have.

I feel uncomfortable driving next to them because I don't know if they can see my wee car. One time I almost got hit by one of those things when I was merging onto a freeway, that was probably my fault but good thing I glance in the mirror and realized the mistake I made so I quickly pulled off into the emergency lane to get out of its way. Then later I ended up in the middle of a big herd of them. I was sweating like crazy.
