Have the cicadas near you started their Summer song yet? I heard the first one three days ago.

Yesterday, one started up but stopped. I have a number of ground hornets around here that eat only the cicadas. Evidently, cicadas are a rather local thing as are shredded chicken sandwiches that you can still find at a root beer stand like A&W. Can you imagine a summer without cicadas and shredded chicken sandwiches?  This post was edited by B.H.Wilson at July 4, 2018 11:28 AM MDT

A bird probably got it. We get cicada killer wasps every year. They are harmless and don't sting if you don't pick them up harshly.

OMG - - I swear I'm telling the truth - - the first thing I thought was "The guy videoing this sounds hot."

    I need help!
    Ha!

(Haven't seen nor heard any that I've noticed -- and they're surely noticeable!)

I haven't seen or heard any yet. They're so beautiful, aren't they? Their wings are mesmerizing.
