Addicts are different people when they're using, yes? So, should someone in recovery be forgiven for poor behavior after cleaning up?

Not criminal behavior- just being a crappy person in general.

This is about the tildes, isn't it?  Your thinly-disguised attempts to lure me into an online intervention won't work, you anti-tildite vixen you!  Grrrrrrrr.

Everyone should have a right to be forgiven if they acknowledge their mistakes.

It's actually up to the individual whether or not he/she deserves forgiveness. As for the people doing the forgiving, same thing.

Yes, everyone should be forgiven. It does no good to hold a grudge. But it is up to them to show they have indeed changed...especially before they would be allowed around my kids or grandkids.

First - they have to ask for forgiveness.

Second - they have to make a good faith effort to rectify the wrong they did.
"I'm sorry I stole $100 from you.  Please forgive me."
    Well, pay it back, then!

I am pretty forgiving. I would tell that person, though "No more crappy behaviour.".
