A country in decline is like a book that doesn't sell. They drastically discount it and you buy it on the cheap. What's the US worth today?
Versus what it usta be worth when it welcomed immigrants, had a two-party system that worked together and didn't have a leader whose purpose was to divide and conquer and totally destroy? Remember back to then?
I'd argue that the first major step in the decline of the nation, was the acceptance of the "two party system". It was a major move to put political office, especially at the state and federal level, out of reach of the average citizen.
I'd also argue that this country never welcomed immigrants, in large numbers. I mean, as soon as any group started immigrating in large numbers, America made it difficult for them. That is a large reason why you find "enclaves" of ethnicities.
I beg to differ with you. BIGLY. I am first generation AMERICAN. Both my dad's parents and my mom's were immigrants who went through Ellis Island in the long ago. They fled the Armenian genocide at the hands of the Turks. They believed that what was written on the Statue of Liberty was true. As for not being welcomed? When you went to junior high from grammar school you were considered to be a "SCRUB". The older kids lorded it over you. It was to be expected. All newbies everywhere are treated alike. You start a new job. The first few days are he** especially if you are a replacement for someone who was well-liked. You get through it n the other side and everything settles down. Same with the immigrants. It was a new land. A new language. New environment. New people. You cannot expect the newbies and those who were already here to be best friends on day one. It takes time to acclimate. It takes time to get used to new. But it was the people who were the short-term problem. NOT THE GOVERNMENT. Today GOVERNMENT is the enemy of the immigrant., GOVERNMENT is the big bad racist bigoted Hateful boogyman. The people who support whatever government does are hopeless and they do not count. When government is your enemy it becomes very difficult to survive. When Government attacks you and makes you endure CRUEL and UNUSUAL punishment that is very evil. That is the exact circumstance in which the US of A finds itself due to its "leader". SIGH. Other than that your answer is hunky dory Walt. Thank you and Happy Wednesday! :)
I cannot speak in terms of money.. but it IS an acknowledged fact outside of some Americans who truly refuse to believe or even consider it - that America has been in decline for a number of decades in terms of world standing and world influence.. Obama IS acknowledged to have improved America's reputation and world standing.. and I say that knowing that he wasn't all that fond of us Brits.. He did improve things, the beginnings were there..
I do feel it's a shame.. I am old enough to remember when AMerica was somewhere that was respected, a nation to look up to, a nation that really DID lead the world in terms of influence.. They were seen as a shining example.. And we, Brits would tend to follow American's trends, albeit about 10 years behind..
Much as some don't want to face this and prefer to believe fake news and reports that everything in the garden as regards America's power and influence now I am afraid things have slipped badly and it really does feel like Trump is a large nail in the coffin.
I agree with every word. Ya know why? Because its all too true. I didn't know that Obama didn't like you guys though. I wonder why? But that was then and this is now. King don is so jealous of Obama he hopes to destroy everything he ever did. King don the rat is doing a he**uva job. He is dedicated. He is driven. He is obsessed.
