Does Clothing Turn People Into Terrorists?

Sounds bizarre, right?  Well...

Kyrgyzstan president says Islamic dress 'turns women into terrorists'

THE president of Kyrgyzstan has said women can become radicalised by wearing Islamic dress.

Almazbek Atambayev has tried to dissuade women in the country from dressing in hijabs, niqabs and burkas saying: "Our women have been wearing miniskirts since 1950s, and they never thought about wearing an explosive belt."

Maybe the fundamentalism that drives conservative Islamic dress also drives Islamic terrorism and Islamic backwardness. In the 1920s, Turkey's Mustafa Kemal Atatürk all but banned the fez and the chador, and women in public service could not wear the headscarf though they can now. He considered such things to be signs of backwardness and ignorance.

    Hello N:

I think so..  Somebody gave me a tie dyed tee shirt, so I HAD to drop out and take LSD..  Now, I wear sweats, so I HAVE to eat the early bird and go to bed at 7.

so wearing the headscarf is a sign of backwardness and ignorance but forcibly stopping women who WANT to wear the headscarf from wearing it is progress and enlightenment.

I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that people of a wide variety of faiths also wear head covering and other quasi-'religious' garments.  The list would include Jews, Christians (mostly but not exclusively Catholics), the Amish, Buddhists, Hindi...

Point is, while the clothes don't necessarily make the terrorist, many terrorists are similarly clad.

    SPOT ON!

As an ideology, Islam may not be the only 'maker' of terrorists, but it's a top producer!

It won't be Islam as such, but the way some criminals are using the religion making it a holy war. Religion used for war isn't a new phenomenon, or historically limited to Islam.

Applying a similar logic one could point to the high number of criminals in US jails and say that since these guys come under the US constitution it makes sense to say that the US constitution makes people criminals.

Damned near all CURRENT terrorists are Muslim.  As Sapphic points out, this hasn't always been the case.

I'm not sure I put much stock in the 'hijacking religion' part, though.  Some religions lend themselves, if not outright DEMAND, violence. Islam is one of them.

"Believe nothing I say about Islam.  Believe nothing anyone else says about Islam. Read the Qur'an yourself [and discover the true core of terrorism which lies within]."

And your analogy is flawed.  Criminals, by definition, operate OUTSIDE the law (in this case the Constitution).  By contrast, Islamic terrorists are merely following the edicts of their pervert prophet and his sadistic 'god.'  If you'd like me to point you to the specific verses in the Qur'an, I'll be happy to do so.

Doesn't make all Muslims terrorists though, and you know it. Don't forget the domestic ones, "Al"... Look up the list and see if your social club is among them?!

Oh, you will find horrible parts inside the Christian books too. It's all about how you interpret them towards modern society. If you take things out of context they will show you an evil side. That's what the terrorist organisations such as ISIS are doing. That's the same what some of the Christian terrorist groups does.
