I have my air conditioning on 88 and it is cool compared to outside.

My electric bill is really out of control if I leave it any lower.  I just get used to it and use plug in fans a lot.

We keep ours at 84. We're old Sharon and we also use fans a lot. Last night when we went to bed it was 95! Right now it's 81 but today will be 110 which means it will get higher. I dunno. Usually August and September are our hottest months. So far July has been gawdawful. I can hardly wait for all the tomorrows. SIGH. Thank you for your reply! :)

It' been warm and very humid here in NYC.  It's been very wet this past week.  I can get away with running the fans early in the day, but by mid-afternoon, I really need to use the A/C.  Happy Tuesday. :)

I think it's been hotter than usual everywhere. Even in Japan it got to be 106 and I think that is some kind of record. Global warming or just normal quixotic climate? I dunno. Oh I read something yesterday that I'm gonna pursue. There seems to be a link between climate change and suicides L. Have you read/heard anything about it? Thank you for your reply. Today is projected to be 110 in Hemet. Great!  :(

Yes, it has been very warm around the globe, it seems.  I don't know if it's just weather or real climate change.  Certainly, I can't really hearing about so many wildfires out in the west as this year.  So much damage to homes and the environment not to mention wildlife.  No, I haven't heard about the link between climate change and suicide.

This morning, we had torrential rains.  I left the house to go to work and by the time I got one block away, I was drenched to the skin.  The skies just opened up and I had to go back home to change into dry clothes and wait until it let up.

Wow! Well at least you don't have to worry about drought L. Thank you for your thoughtful reply! :)

Quite the opposite.  We are drowning.  I wish there were some way we could get all that rain out to the west.

You know L if we are smart enough to fly to the moon and to make guns on 3D printers we ought to be smart enough to figure out how we can equalize the weather. That 3D thing really scares me. Some guy put his instructions on the internet of how to do it. His protection? The first amendment which protects free speech and the 2nd amendment which protects t he right to bear arms. So what do we do about it when the nutjobs can make their own guns? Heaven help us! Thank you for your reply sweetie! :) (9hugs))

I don't know what we're going to do.  It's even more scary that these guns will not be detected at the airports.

Right. I forget about that but you're right. So the NRA is now toothless relative to anyone's ability to make his own gun. No one's needs an organization to lobby for them. The don't have to pay dues. They don't have to follow rules. It's like baking your own cake or going to the bakery. Except cakes don't kill usually. I don't know how much expertise is involved but I'm sure the ones who are determined enough will have no problem learning how to do it. DIY! Used to be something of which we were proud. DIY now becomes lethal. SIGH. Thank you for your reply L and Happy Thursday! :)

I suspect that there will have to be more detailed scrutiny of baggage, particularly carry-on, at the airports.  Happy Thursday. :)

So luggage will have to be opened and examined. Imagine how much longer it will take to get through security. Yikes.  Thank you for your reply L! :)

I believe that the newer x-ray machines can detect what's in the luggage better than the old machines.  I don't know if that means that we will also have to have checked luggage examined.  Of course, if you're checking your luggage, you can't get to the gun and from what I hear, you can only shoot one bullet from it, so mass murder is out. :)  Happy Friday. :)

That's something at least. So mass gun-related murder is unlikely to occur in a plane flying high in the sky! Sigh. Thank you for your reply L! :)

No mass murder on planes.  We take the good news wherever we can get it. :)  Happy Saturday. :)

Precisely sweetie! In fact I said those exact same words to Jim this very morning after I did my usual daily check of the 8-day weather forecast. Today it will ONLY be 99! Imagine being grateful for that?  Which proves EVERYTHING IS RELATIVE. I'm gonna ask "is everything relative to something else"? Thank you for your reply L and Happy Sunday!  :)

I don't envy those people one bit.  In comparison, my current temperature of 97 is downright balmy.   Unfortunately I don't have a/c, just a desk fan (and 2 melted cats).  Thankfully, most of the thick smoke here has stayed aloft so I can at least open a window or 2 later in the evening.

Some folks PREFER hot weather Shuhak. My sister-in-law (deceased sadly) LOVED it and our daughter-in-law LOVES it! She and our son used to live in Oregon and when their kids were grown and out on their own they moved to a suburb of Phoenix! Some huge difference!. Jim and I aren't hot-weather people but we live in a hot-weather place because it's cheaper! When our ship comes in we're buying a place at the beach. I might have mentioned that to you before. It helps to eat refreshing things of course. I make lots of ice in the summer. We eat lots of WATERMELON. That really cools ya down. We also eat lots of salads and sandwiches and things that I don't have to heat up the kitchen for. We use fans which are very helpful but without our air conditioning we could not live here. Yesterday it got up to 110 and the next few days will be about at that level if not higher. We enjoy our lives but honestly each year we do our best to just survive the summer. It could be worse of course. Things can always be worse. What thick smoke? Lots of fires? We've had tons in northern and southern California. None near us but we're usually dry and with the extreme intense heat when the winds come up (they're called Santa Anas for some reason) the firefighters have it really bad. Thank you for your reply and KEEP COOL! Happy Wednesday! :)

I don't like really hot weather although I can tolerate it.  We average about four 100 degree days a year.  Thus a/c isn't really needed.  The humidity here is usually on the low side so that makes the heat more tolerable.  It's when the monsoon moisture rolls in that things get a bit uncomfortable.

The smoke here is from the Ferguson fire (in the Yosemite area).  The winds aloft shifted yesterday so this morning the skies here are blue once again.  Unfortunately, every day another fire pops up around here.  Between the dead trees, the tall dry grasses, and the idiots who refuse to comprehend fire safety, it's only a matter of time before a fire sweeps through here.
I use frozen grape juice to keep cool (homemade popsicles).  The watermelons around here are bad.  They're like eating styrofoam (same taste and texture).  What happened to the sweet large melons we used to have when I was a kid?

Try lime juice -it works well to help tolerate the heat. The limey sailors discovered that long time and that is why they are referred to as 'limeys'. This post was edited by Kittigate at July 26, 2018 3:07 AM MDT
