Have you ever seriously thought about writing books?

I'm giving it some serious thought.  I recently realized that my noggin holds memories/stories that I would feel good about others reading.

I wouldn't mind editing science books.

I have seen numerous errors in them.

  • It makes me wonder how it gets into textbooks.  I will do some research.

Many years ago I began writing and wrote several short stories. After I got comfortable with that I began to undertake writing a short science fiction novel. I got a few chapters written but I slowly lost interest. I guess that happens when you're a teenager. I still have the partial manuscript around here someplace. So yes, I thought about writing books. If you have the desire, the ideas, and the passion to write, by all means, pursue it. I don't know how it is with you but I found that I can express myself better with the written word than I can talking to someone. :)

I was a guerrilla cannabis grower for 10 years so I thought those adventures would make a good book. Cheers!

I avoided planting around blackberries because they could make the pot go moldy if there still in the ground in September - I could put that info in the book. Cheers!

  • By September they should be in re-veg (around here), and wild blackberries are around April 1st so no worries with mold.  Staying on top of the borers is the real chore.

  • Yes, since I was a child. I've had a few inspirational columns published over the years, but that's a long way from writing books. I managed to write a few good essays and short stories in high school and college but that's about it.

No I'm not in the least creative.  And besides if I so bore everyone on this site with what I write why would I think to do better with the general public?

  • I'm dull as rusty knife, too, but a recent event alone could more than top Lonesome Dove's page-count and capture more interest.

I've seriously thought about suicide. It's in my mind even now, but thoughts about writing books were never my thing.

  • I've wondered what the breaking point would be for me to think about suicide.

Yes.  In fact, I've written 5 books (sci-fi novels), 1 children's story and numerous short stories.  (no, nothing published)

  • Why do you not submit them to publishers?

    Because I don't think they're that good.

  • I have written a book. I have one complete novel and 200,000 words of a second novel. No, nothing is published.

  • You should submit your first to publishers if you haven't, and hope the proceeds inspire you to keep writing.  :-)

I have thought about it. I’m just not creative and I‘m a poor writer.

  • I think that's the reason I haven't.

I find it funny that there is an advertisement running on TV, for a company that says they will pay you to "write a book".  Except they also say you don't have to do the writing, or even give them an outline - they will have somebody do that work.  In other words, they just want an idea for a book - and then will write the whole thing.

Sounds like a scam to me.

And yes, I've thought about writing a book.
Especially with the recent "surge" in LitRPG, and the ease of self-publishing.
