Diane Feinstein claimed over a million women died from illegal abortions in the 50s & 60s before RoevWade. Did she deliberately lie?

During the Senate confirmation hearings for Kavanaugh:

Feinstein said, “In the 1950s and ’60s, the two decades before Roe, deaths from illegal abortions in this country ran between 200,000 and 1.2 million. That’s according to the Guttmacher Institute. So a lot of women died in that period.”


No: that is the number of illegal abortion performed not number of mother's deaths. It would be the number of baby's deaths. The actually death rate of the mothers in 1950s to 1960s was approx 300-200 annually. Still too many but certainly not 1.2 Million.
