Do you think they should have come up with a different name for aspergers?

Why does is make me think of fast food?

  • Maybe I'm a little twisted, but now I'm craving a butter burger from Culver's. Oh, and yes, I do think they should have thought that name through just a little more carefully.

It always makes me think of the word asparagus.
(A vegetable that I despise, by the way.  Yuck!)

Au contraire, mon ami amie. Hater of certain vegetables.

[Edited to reflect that ami = male, amie = female.]

I love broccoli, but why tell me?  Did you think you'd be rubbing something in?

Ok, here are the ones I loathe: squash, okra, turnips, beers, avocados (that might be a fruit; I'm not sure), Brussel sprouts, seaweed, wax beans, asparagus, kale, etc.

Have you ever tried fried okra in the south?  They make the best ever, dip in mayonnaise and it's yummy to the tummy.

I do not like okra when it's raw
I do not like okra to touch my jaw
I do not like okra in the North or in the South
I do not like okra to touch my mouth
I do not like okra dipped in any kind of sauce
I will not eat okra when I'm fully dressed or only in my draws
I do not like okra in any way
I will not eat okra on any day
I will not eat okra on land or in a boat
I will not allow okra to go down my throat
I do not want okra boiled nor baked
I do not want okra pie nor okra cake
I denounce okra grilled or fried
You said it's delicious but I know you lied
I shan't have okra when playing poker nor gin rummy
'Cause no one's okra shall go into my tummy
I won't be forced to eat okra when dining with Winfrey, Oprah
I can't be forced to eat okra when dining with Deepak Chopra
I refuse offers of okra-based dishes
Because okra ain't part of my culinary wishes
Randy D does not eat okra in Cornwall
Or Randolph D if you must be formal
Or Randall D to my elders
But give me no okra, it's not my druthers
I leave you now to consider this missive
That tells you okra is not permitted
Touch my lips it never can
So abandon now your evil plan
Sneaking okra to me disguised as other plates
Would mean for you an unpleasant fate

    (With apologies to Dr. Seuss.)

  • Yes, avocado is a fruit but what's wrong with beer? And why didn't I know it was a vegetable?! You've confirmed it ... it's a health food!!

With that list, you can't convince me that you're not hatin' on the veggies.

I don't drink beer, either.  (I suppose now you want a rhyme about that too, right?)

Asperger’s Syndrome was named after the Dr who first identified it. It is a species of autism.
We could just call it “retarded”, like back in the old days, but that might be inaccurate, and demeaning. I think maybe subconsciously, some do anyway... This post was edited by Don Barzini at October 20, 2018 8:10 AM MDT

Every time I hear that name, it reminds me of a girl who rode with me on the school bus back in the 60s.  She was not approachable by the likes of me.

It's better than Beefburger's. The name is no longer used in the DSM.
