I do. We are short staffed as is and prisons are full of sick people. I know I’m needed there and I have only called in sick three times. We have at least four people calling in sick every day. I don’t want to add to the list.
What if you had something highly contagious and you didn't know...taking it in to a prison could be quite devastating and infect so many others including the staff and your friends....If they all become ill...what then ?
I had the flu once and called in that time. Most of the time I just have a sinus infection or cold. If it were something serious I would go to the doctor and stay home. I have acid reflux and heartburn. Sometimes I throw up. It isn’t contagious so I power through it. I also have borderline Crohn’s Disease. I just power through flare-ups.
Back in the Navy. A recruit from another country would join our Navy and bring a bug that most have never been exposed too. When a recruit got sick, he got a three day bunk pass. The recruit trainers (me) had to continue working even if I got sick. It happened twice in four years while I was there. I haven't been ill for28 years, except for very minor colds.
Friday. We're upskill training at the moment, couldn't miss two days so after missing Thursday (didn't dare go too far from a toilet), I dragged my sorry carcass in on Friday.
When I had the flu a month or so ago. I went through the worst of it on my days off, but it was still lingering by the time I had to go back to work. It was mostly just a severe headache by then and I hate missing work what with it being so understaffed so I just went in.
