Love is when you are aware of a need and you take care of it. Two things: awareness, and caring. People need to receive love, at least occasionally, and some people never learn to give love. What we call respect is acknowledging a job well done, although some people make more of it than that.
You teach a person respect by showing him some. Many people have never been shown. The military, for example, has a system they call respect, but it actually is a system of disrespect, which they acknowledge with the saying "Rank has its privileges."
A question you should respond to yourself.
Some deserve it while others do not. I would say some people are assholes while others are not.
