How is it that the people who celebrate Columbus 'discovering' America and oppose the idea of renaming the holiday to

"Indigenous People's Day" are pretty much the same people who are freaking out about protecting the borders from uninvited immigrants?

A lot of us are going to need Pepto by the time this president's term is over.

I understand. Many just don't get the concept of empathy.

Nationalists seem to like protecting their own as well as their history.

Their own, meaning white, European immigrants?

Their sanitized, BS version of history or their actual history?

No.  Their countrymen.  It's not about race or ancestors' heritage.  Nationalists are simply non-globalists.

You brought up history, that's why I asked.

Nationalists do understand the history and definition of Nationalism, don't they?

I gotta say hi to you before I start with my political tirade.

I have not been on here for a few months because I didn't have time to fix my computer I was busy.

Now I am jobless again.  I'll tell you about it.  This way you won't hate me when I start bashing Trump because you will be worried for me.

It's all good.  I learned a lot and really love the work.  I had to work for a 24 year old.  Our days together were numbered from the start.  I cannot believe I did so well or lasted so long.   And now I have lots more experience.  She was not a good manager.  It was like working for Answer Bag. LOL

I'm glad to see you and know you are OK.  Sorry about the job though, but I doubt I could work for a 24 year old.  I doubt I could work for anyone.    I guess you will be on the hunt for another job.  I read recently that with the economy doing so well all of the industries like massage and spa services are growing.  I hope you land something exciting soon.  I have friends in Phoenix who say they are just getting a little break from the heat.  This is the first week we've been out of the 90s, so I'm enjoying this "cold front."  Thanks for the shout out without the rant.  There's lots of space for that now.  Stick around, would ya?  You were missed.

Savvy, we have the Orange Cheeto in office proclaiming that we are denigrating great people by taking down the Confederate Flag; people are weeping over the unfairness of taking down statues of generals who fought against freeing the slaves.  The South, and Trump's uneducated base, apparently, are still as racist as hell.

Do you think that the USA is ready to change the name of Columbus... the 'Day the Man who Named the freaking Country discovered America and claimed it for Spain' Day?  THAT Day?  Oh, yeah.  Sure.  Do you think Columbus day would change?  Sure, to anti-immigration and anti-abortion day?  We can call it AIAA Day.

Oh sure.  Actually, Columbus was a lot like Trump.  He lied a lot.  He enslaved people to reach his goal of navigating a new route; Trump, in turn, cages children and makes them orphans... yada yada.

We cannot even elect a woman for president without some white man stepping in to cheat the process.  That white man has friends in high places on the other side of our globe.

Here is what we need to wake up to.  Columbus Day may some day be called Trump Day.  Celebrating how lies can become truths in an instant.  All we need to do is keep our heads in the sand and do nothing.

"We cannot even elect a woman for president."

What made Hillary Clinton entitled to the presidency and why should she have been elected purely by virtue of being female? Identity politics accomplishes nothing. She was a lousy candidate who ran a poor campaign, and you can thank her for the election of your friend Mr. Putz.

I can thank a hundred people besides Hilldog herself for ruining that campaign.  But, everyone who had half a brain knew she was going to win over a completely inexperienced con man who only idiots would stand behind.

I can thank Joe Blow who didn't bother to vote because he was so sure she was a shoo in.  I can thank Trump and his gang of criminals most of all, I can thank Russia and I can thank all Democrats who are so milk-toast and spineless that we have one criminal party and one useless weak disorganized one.

So, no medals go anywhere here.

The Republican'ts will just turn it back on us and say we are the ones being rude.

It doesn't help that's for sure.  They are not going to change the ones that are stuck.  They drank the Kool-Aid.  Let's drink more SANE Aide and get to the voting booths if it still can help at all.

    We have to try.

The day is supposed to mark remembering when Columbus discovered America.  So no let's not rename it. Columbus did not attack the Indians.

I have no problem with having an Indigenous Peoples Day...but no it should not take Columbus day's place.

    LOL!

Columbus never even set foot in North America. If we're going to celebrate an European "discovering" America, shouldn't it be Leif Erikson?

Columbus did not attack the Indians? Surely, you're kidding. Columbus called the people of the Caribbean (where he did set foot) 'Indians', probably because he thought he was in India.  He captured and enslaved them, sent thousands to Spain to be sold as slaves, infected them with diseases that killed them. In response to their protests, he murdered them and ordered their dismembered bodies to be paraded through the streets to deter further revolt.

Celebrating Columbus is akin to celebrating Hitler or Lenin.

Are you familiar with Jeffrey Amherst, 1st Baron Amherst, aka Lord Jeffrey Amherst? He may be a more apt analogy to Columbus, given his wonderful treatment of native Americans during Pontiac's War (aka Pontiac's Rebellion), which followed the French and Indian War in the 1760s. As governor general of New France (later governor of Quebec), he favored biological warfare against the natives in the form of smallpox-infected blankets. He became famous in the US as namesake of Amherst, Massachusetts, and Amherst College as well as a number of other places.
