So..I'll say that critic did not see the original Nosferatu or Martin, but it certainly ranks very high. I rally love that movie(s) I would so love to see the original writer & director collaborate on a sequel, with Oskar and Eli older. The movie(s) leave me wanting to know more about them
Yes, the original "Nosferatu" and "Martin." I like both of them a lot, too. Just pictures of the creature in "Nosferatu" creeps me out. :)
A sequel with Oskar and Eli would be nice - - and I don't even remember the exact ending of this movie. (Don't tell me, ha!) It'd be nice to have the same actors, too, in a sequel. :)
It's almost frame for frame, word for word, but in English. Surprisingly, It's very good and faithfully adapted. I often wonder why go through all the trouble sometimes. Some people don;t like subtitles and if you are lile me, Welby, I'm not a big fan odubbing. To me that kind of ruins a movie. Anyhow I digress. LOL
The remake is very enjoyable and well done. I recommend it .
Subtitles are no problem to me whatsoever. It's interesting; I, too, think, "Why bother when the original is so good? Why make it all over again, simply for another language?" I know, probably money.
As upsetting and disturbing I found the movie, "I'm in awe of Michael Haneke's 1997 "Funny Games." Haneke himself remade the movie in English. I'm told it, too, is basically a frame by frame remake. Why bother? The original cast is superb in the original one, too. But I do have a good friend who has seen both and he says the remake I might enjoy simply because Michael Pitt is one of the stars. :)
Perhaps the remake of "Let the Right One In" would be good to me.
Funny Games is one of thiose movies that I refer to as the "One of the Best Movies I will Never Watch Again".
There are several others, but two specifially come to mind" Irreversible and A Serbian Film. Both are repulsive, harsh, and trumatizing, and yet, they are also original, beautiful ,and amazingly well-crafted films. I love them-I hate them. lol
Back to Funny Games... I have seen both and the I agree with your friend. It is really good. Michael Pitt is a very good actor and I gotta say that I pretty much enjoy seeing him in anything he does.
"Dreamers" with hot young blond singer Jeremy Jordan? Or was it a different "Dreamers" movie? I've not seen the Jordan film anyway. I just know he was in a movie called that.
I would categorize "Funny Games" the same as you. Wow! Simply and totally unforgettable. I'm amazed at how much I remember of that movie after seeing it only once. I, too, like Michael Pitt -- he's a really good actor. But, again, that first one is so good -- and Arno Frisch is amazing to me as the original Pitt character. BUT - - I've yet to see a Haneke film that has disappointed me. With him at the realm, I'm sure the American "Funny Games" is astounding, too.
I've not seen the other two Never-Again movies you mentioned.
