How does the mob get people to be compliant with their "protection" schemes?

I told my kids tonight that I'd make sure their candy stayed safe if they gave me 25%. They just looked at me like I was nuts. :/

    Not that they know of. :o
    I think they're just accustomed to getting my candy protection services free. Maybe I should work this from a different marketing angle.

      "That sure is a nice collection of candy you've accumulated there, and I like the way you've got it all arranged, too. Gee, it would be a crying shame if something were to happen to it. Perhaps you should consider taking out an insurance policy, purely as a precautionary measure.  Far be it for me to tell you your business . . . "
