Inspired by another question.Have you seen this movie, the best movie I've yet to see? :)

"Best" is subjective, I know. And I would call it the "best" if I had to choose. There are lots of other movies I really, really like, too.

    Bingo.
    :)

SEMI-PLOT SPOILER FOR "DANCER IN THE DARK"!!!!!

You are OH so right about this movie! You know -- quite a while ago I shared this movie with my parents. We three watched it together in their living room.
And you know what? Toward the end, as things are moving SO much to Depression Land, very unlike my mother, she suddenly stood up and simply and quietly said to Dad and me, "I can't take any more of this misery." And she walked out of the room.

And she stayed in the kitchen.
As far as I know, she has never seen the ending to the movie.

I think that's a testament to the power of the movie.

  • WOW

lol  I don;t know whether to laugh at that or cry. I feel for your mother. I rarely go to movie theatres (I'll save that for another day). I did go to see DID after being coerced not knowing anything about the plot except that it had one of my fave singers, Bjork.

I was so upset when I left that theatre. I am one of those people who can cry real had at a moviue and this film killed me. It was like Depression Toture porn. OMG

Thank you for sharing that with me, Welby.
I agree..this film is incredibly powerful and has the power to leave the viewer emotionally devestated

I give another prize to you, a Pick. Not that I don't like all the other answers, I do. It's just that you have summed up my entire reaction to this movie.

I was devastated by the end, too.

What a strong cast, too.  Special mention for me about Catherine Deneuve -- playing Selma's co-worker and friend.

    Wow -- what a movie.

Yes, you're right about my mom! Ha! Do we laugh or cry about my mom and this movie? But she was SO straight-forward and spoke so factually, without a lot of emotion -- she just had had it and could not take the misery any longer.

I think in general you're probably right.

But, hey, along with us, Judas H Goat has seen it. He identified the title.

    Let me guess -

    * "Lord of the Flies" or "SWAT" - A movie about people swatting flies at work

    * "Sisterhood of the Traveling Shrooms" - A movie about passing a joint at work without the boss seeing

    * "Around the office in 8 hours" - killing time at work

I shared a little story with you under your answer. I waited to the last to respond to your answer - - I kept thinking I needed to share it with you after what you said about the movie.
    :)

    But let me think about it - - yes, I'll look for a prize . . .

Let me know if you want me to delete.

But if you can delete and think you need to, it's OK. I probably will be leaving for the night in a bit. Good to see you!

It doesn't appear to violate TOS. My opinion.

Umm... Also, GJ isn't a moderator. If he can remove things, it means the site is broken.

And, also also, I looked at the photo and thought it was a wrestler posing. A reverse image search informed me that wasn't so, but if it looked like a clean image of a wrestler... I think it gets a pass.
