Can't help but think if it was the womens 4 x 100 relay team the media coverage would have a distinctly different tone.
She is lovely, but do you think she'd have half the country making excuses for her if she ripped the door off a bathroom stall like Lochte did?
I wasn't aware he was getting the soft treatment. Almost every media outlet I've seen has slammed him up one side and down the other. The New York Post has repeatedly (and somewhat accurately, I think) referred to him as the [stereotypical] "Ugly American."
In any case, Bryan Lochte screwed up HUGE. He knows it. The rest of the world knows it, and Brazil (a people for whom I harbor nothing but the utmost respect) knows it. Whatever price he pays will pale by comparison to the damage he did to the reputation of a struggling nation and its peoples.
That said, I sincerely HOPE the world will eventually demonstrate a modicum of forgiveness if not to separate themselves from Lochte and his atrocious behavior.
I, too, have only heard the media slamming him.
