"You gotta take care of the floors. You know the floors of the forest, very important... I was with the President of Finland... he called it a forest nation and they spent a lot of time on raking and cleaning and doing things and they don't have any problem." - Donald Trump
I know it's a huge list, but this has to be near the top of the dumbest things he's ever said, right?
Hello Lavender
I must respectfully disagree. Is stifling speech which you disagree with or find distasteful really the road you want to travel.
Secondly, if we waited to talk about it till' everyone was settled, we would be waiting for an awful long time. In 2017 we had 1000;s of wild fires, some breaking records for loss. Over a million acres burned, almost 10,000 structures burned and dozens of lives were lost. Many, if not most of those who lost everything are still waiting to "move forward". We have been burning here for years.
I live in a very wooded area, and worry about the dangers of a fire. I have many dead trees on my property. I cannot cut them down without going through an expensive, lengthy process that would cost thousands of dollars and take years. We absolutely have issues with forest management.
PG&E may have indeed provided the spark, but the lack of fire preparedness provided the fuel.
California and the forestry service have been sued time and time again by environmental groups which has hampered the ability of Forestry agencies to be proactive with forest management. Logging has been made, through these court action, and the feds shutting off lands, to become almost extinct in the state.
The irony is that these fires have done more to damage the environment than forest management ever could.
Now we find ourselves in the position where most all of our resources in "forestry" are spent battling these fires instead of preventing them.
Furthermore, President Trump has been trying to open up some of these federal lands to logging and cleaning since before these current fires began, something which the U.S. Forestry dept. agrees would reduce the risk of these "mega" fires, in fact, the general consensus was that this needed to be done, until of course, President trump said it...Now....well we just need to shut up...c'mon Lavender, You can do better than that...
