What do you think about that bible-thumping nut-case who got himself killed on that island?

I was just thinking about him a few moments ago.  My opinion is he "felt" called to go to the island

and share Jesus. When the natives began throwing spears he walked right into the line of fire.

His faith was incredible, he so believed that he was called, he knew Jesus would protect him, no

matter what. In the natural I would say he was sadly mistaken, he was not called at all.  In the

spiritual, he was definately compelled to go that island.  The voyage there, in part, was obviously

his appointment to go home.  How his walk into danger affected the natives, I'll never know but I'll

bet they are still talking about it.

Sometimes you don't see how a seed is planted.  He gave his life  for his beliefs. I can't see a man who had such faith whose life

would be freely given with no spiritual return.

I guess Jesus let him down. I hope he went to Heaven...God will give him a major ass-chewing.

He knew Jesus would protect him? LOL! How delusional. How can a guy who's been dead for roughly 2,000 years do anything but push up the daisies?

  • This is what being delusional does to people. He never should have attempted to make contact with that tribe. History shows that it never fares well for natives when so-called "Christians" try to force their beliefs upon them. Good for the natives for protecting themselves.

As opposed to other bible-thumping nutcases such as those on AM? I'll never understand the fallacious belief in the live existence of a dead guy.

I think he knew what could happen to him going somewhere that was prohibited and that something bad happened to him when he got there was pretty predictable.  If he was willing to die for his faith, more power to him.  Personally, I take the side of the natives.

If God wanted these people to convert to Christianity wouldn't he have spoken to them from a burning bush or something?

He could have smited a bunch of them, or sent Himself in mortal form to be sacrificed to Himself in His own name.

The former, I fear, is still in play, the latter is really not.

Don, if there is one thing I can always count on, it is you bringing dry, logical synopsis to a conversation and/or question.  It is a talent I could learn from.  I tend to listen to all sides and forget the question at hand, entirely! ;)

Stu, I used SMITED in a playful way; SMITTEN has connotations of affection.
    SMOTE is also correct.

OK, fair enough. But for me, reading smited in such a context is like someone scratching a blackboard. LOL.

I hear you. Bad grammar is a pet peeve of mine as well.

If it’s any consolation, I usually do it on purpose. :P

Then there's no reason to answer. I promise you, it really is OK not to answer every question on here, especially if you lack knowledge or information.

Such is the price of delusion; he should have left those people alone. If only more tribes had defended themselves as effectively when the scourge of religion arrived uninvited on their shores...

History repeatedly shows that wherever Christian doctrine contacts another culture, the destruction of that culture is near. This post was edited by Don Barzini at December 5, 2018 6:32 PM MST
