Should some people have their comma privileges taken away?

When you use one, every few words, it reads, like you're out of.... breath. Just use them where you need them! Quit wasting commas that other people could be using!

  • Hmm.

I've been mostly using the Oxford guide to grammar and punctuation. Memorised. Ceasing use from this moment now. I started doing it my first day on aM because one misplaced comma earned an attack by the Grammar Police - a mugger who is in all other respects funny, intelligent and interesting. There. I just replaced a comma with a dash and left out the comma after interesting which would be required by technically correct writing. It feels more natural and flowing to leave it out.

I will of course have to cope with his periodic attacks but I will choose to ignore them.

I found the 24 hours without commas an interesting exercise. Sometimes I had to add in a series of and's or or's, or add more words, or get creative and incorrect with other kinds of punctuation or spacing in order to keep meaning clear.

It's led me to think I need to put myself through a series of exercises practising different ways of punctuating.

I think your question will end up helping my writing.

    Thank you.
