Trump is a sort of measuring stick, because he's president, and because of the enormity of his very public ignorant, offensive and inappropriate words and actions.
More than anything else, the rise of Trump has opened my eyes to the reality of intolerance and bigotry in this country, and that has affected me. I have great concern for the environment, public lands and the natural world. Trump and his appointees have impacted these in a negative way. I'm also a compassionate person and am pained by the suffering of others. I don't think this is a personal choice, it's part of who I am.
