He has a seemingly unmatched ability to alienate and antagonise people around him, as well as a record of dishonesty, which on the face of things ought to rule him out as Prime Minister.
But I don't think we can be confident of this. From many Tories' point of view, he's a nice, safe, pseudo anti-establishment candidate - controversial and belligerent enough to spice up the party's image, but conventional on policy issues.
