Discussion»Questions»Home and Garden» What do you keep in that very high cupboard above your fridge, the one I can’t reach without a ladder? Go check, I’ll wait here.
I prefer my cheese the natural color which is generally whitish. The coloring of cheese started out as fraud on the public in England in the 1600s. They took the butterfat and used for butter and dyed the milk so the cheese would look like it still had the cream. Today dying is not popular in European countries. In the US Wisconsin still dyes much of their cheese. In NE and Vermont, cheddar is white like it should be. A lot of different things were used to dye the cheese through history but the tropical plant seeds you mention are fairly common today. It is what Kraft, maker of much commercial cheese, uses. I most often keep my frig stocked with Cabot Vermont white sharp cheddar.

To keep items in a cupboard one never uses, ever, is indeed hoarding. I didn't necessarily mean it in the TLC tv show sense.

Let's see, we have the Foodsaver vacuum packer which I don't use very often, and all the bags for it. Then we have spare rolls of baking paper, aluminum foil and saran wrap. On the next shelf are all the goofy appliances I never use: the milk shake mixer that I bought because Mom liked omelettes, but she didn't like them made in a mixer. The bread slicers that weren't worth a hoot. On the top shelf some things I don't even remember and don't care enough to look. I mean at my age I have to care before I climb on anything.
You see ... you are doing all of us a valuable service. Making us think about dealing with all the crappola we have stashed up there. Thanks Jaimie! :)
