Military veterans who are now beyond age for serving, if you could have been in a different branch, which one would it be? ~


  Please name the country for which you served, the branch (or branches) you were in, and the branch(es) in which you would have served instead.  Thank you for serving.

  For instance, I proudly joined the US Marine Corps, served three tours of duty, and I never would have considered any other US military branch.  At one point when approaching reenlistment, I toyed with the idea of getting out and joining the French Foreign Legion, but I quickly dismissed it.

    I was in the US Navy for 20 years. I was enlisted. If I could do it over, I would have applied for Annapolis. I was highly qualified and my father was a disabled WWII vet. My school counselor never mentioned the Military Academies.

    Canadian Navy 9 years. Personnel selection people recommended a weapons trade for me: firecontrolman -sounded interesting using radar and computers to find the targets and aim the guns. When I was posted to ship I discovered as a junior operator I was only required to work my trade for a week every 3 months when we did gun/missile firing drills. Rest of the time working as deck hands.
    If I had known what was in store I would have insisted an engineering trade; stoker, electrician or hull tech.
