Another music question. Could this be the best guitar solo ever?

  • This one, the solo on Dire Strait's Sultans of Swing, and Govt Mule's live version of Beautifully Broken are three of my favorites.   Michael Schenker has a great intro when UFO performed live on either Don Kirshner's Rock Concert or the Midnight Special.   Wow, well, I could go on.   I love Comfortably Numb though.

Knopfler's live performance of Sultans was superb.

  • If you're not familiar with Rory Gallagher, look some of his stuff up.  He was great.

  • You HAVE to.  He is the guitarist that other guitarists should aspire to be.

Remember, Knopfler and Dire Straits wrote 'Telegraph Road'. The actual road that goes from Laskey up to Lapeer, Michigan.

No s***? We used to drive up to a place in Monroe using telegraph. I remember doing 115 MPH once. Fun times.

That's my fave.  I think.  I can hardly ever have a favorite of just about anything.

  • It could quite possibly be....but then I was checking out guitar covers on youtube earlier, and even though I posted this song by other artists on one of Cosmic's questions, I found this version today.  He's good...and cute. ;)  But no shet, I love acoustics.

  • The beauty of the maple is complemented by the emotion put into the licks.

I think this is. Gary Moore. The Messiah will come again.

I love the guitar and I also really love your choice. I'm biased though, I'm a big fan of Gary Moore.

Damn...so many great ones it's hard to choose. He is awesome. Why haven't I have never seen him in a top ten list...Wow. I detect a bit of B.B. King in there. Who is this guy?

He's the most awesome Gary ever. Really, I don't know why you don't or haven't heard of him. He is Canadian and he passed away several years back. He is truly his own. I could listen and have for hours. He goes into his mind when he plays. Truly amazing. To me.

He passed so young...that's why he is not well known. There are a number of magical guitarists who never got a lot of fame.

I would have enjoyed the clip even more if ol’ Gary didn’t look like he was hurting himself.

I could listen to that for hours. Still my favorite song. Ever.

I would also submit the following for your thoughts:

Peter Frampton’s masterpiece “Do You Feel Like We Do”, from Frampton Comes Alive.

Randy Rhoads’ “Mr Crowley” or ”SATO”

Frank Marino’s “Johnny B Goode“ (a bit obscure, but still stunning)

Angus Young on “Whole Lotta Rosie”

Really...aren't we all comfortably numb? Good choices my friend. Johnny is good. Frampton's guitar is pure and sharp, sharp, sharp. Live performance...primo. This post was edited by Element 99 at June 11, 2020 2:36 PM MDT

  • Wow, Frank Marino.  I haven't listened to him/Mahogany Rush since high school.  Loved him.
