No is more live and let live. I would not have any idea how to make friends with a deer. Not that I don't like them. They come into our neighborhood and some people feed them which they are not supposed to because then they become dependent upon that and forget how to forage on their own for themselves and keep coming back and some get killed by cars.
Two weeks ago while driving, I saw a massivly large deer running across a field, leaping & jumping across the road then over a fence. Wow, it was beautiful. I am still surprised by how large it was. I'm not sure i've ever seen one that big before.
I had a deer friend who was very dear to me a few summers ago. She came around most days for a snack at the bird feeders and would actually eat from my hand. Then one day, she just didn't come back.
I like to think that she moved on to greener pastures and has blessed others with her peaceful beauty. Whatever the case, I'll never forget her. Truly a dear deer friend.
I wouldn't wish deer friends on my dear friends. Although beautiful, they're also very destructive (can destroy an entire yard/garden in one night). Their prefered food is anything you plant (they wont touch native weeds). It doesn't matter how high you build a fence, they can still jump it (or go under). And if caught/cornered, they can get really mean (from fawn to buck)! Oh, and they love to hang out in the shadows along road shoulders at night and then quickly jump out in front of unsuspecting drivers. Local insurance companies only pay for 1 deer collision per 2-5 years. So unless you're driving a semi, that "deer friend" is going to cost you major "bucks" (lot's of "doe"?).
