  • Everyone has said or done stupid things one time or another, regardless of status.  People who choose to be offended help keep the alleged offender relevant, while they expect others to adjust because those adults cannot handle being offended.  Creating a public outcry in the cases of entertainers etc,  helps them stay relevant.

Nope. It's impossible to stay relevant by saying stupid things.

I think a majority of long-time entertainers, if successful, try to use their celebrity and wealth for their favourite causes, like Angelina Jolie for the UNESCO program to save endangered children in countries afflicted by war and epidemics.

I doubt it’s a question of staying relevant, it’s more a question of staying on people‘s minds, publicity. That’s especially true in this day and age of the internet “fame game” as opposed to pre-internet celebrity life. They need the likes and name-recognition and screen time that puts them on top of other celebrities and on top of news items. Relevancy might be described differently by different people, and often it is the immoral, illegal or unhealthy behavior that gets people noticed these days. For many people, the only bad publicity is lack of publicity.

Absolutely. The only bad publicity is no publicity.

Lots of people say stupid things to stay relevant. Look at Answermug (not naming names!) as an example.
