Is that really how ya wanna go? Pigging out on foods that will kill ya? Why?

I am not will to pay $500 a month for ins that has a deductible that I would not meet or at least only meet once in 17yrs. My bills do not allow for a $500 monthly bill for a pretty card that says I have insurance.

I have not checked since regulations have changed.

My business is doing well, better than ever. I have never said I was on easy street. I am just a regular working person. In fact, I have said my children qualify for CHIPS....they do not get it free, I do have to pay a monthly premium for it.  My husband and I always worked together. No employer to provided insurance.

$500 a month. $6000 a year. You know m2c after each 3-day bout of chemo which I had to undergo from March 2008 to October 2008 for 7 months I had to follow it up the following week with 5 consecutive days of getting Nupogen shots . So I had 35 of those all total. Each of those cost $1000 but I paid nothing. My insurance took care of it . I never got charged for the chemo and I have zero idea what that would have cost. The first day I had TWO DIFFERENT chemo drips. It took 8 hours. The other  2 days only 1 and that took 4 hours.. I did have to pay $4200 for meds when I fell into that gap between co-pay and catastrophic coverage! I also had 25 days of radiation. I don't know what that cost but it cost me nothing. Insurance saved my life. We would have been wiped out and I still would have died. So while I agree that $500 a month is not cheap isn't hundreds of thousands of dollars even less cheap? Or death? I hope you never face any situation that is life or death. But I have always been A VERY HEALTHY PERSON. I got uterine cancer. They do NOT know why. Which means that it or something else can strike anyone at any time without any known cause. I'm not trying to scare you. You shared with me so I am sharing with you. I told you I was given at 14% chance of surviving 5 years. Here I am 11 years later. Go figger! Okay.  Bye for now. This post was edited by RosieG at February 2, 2019 8:57 AM MST

As far as why I went to Dr, I got the flu and it just was not getting better. And symptoms were getting worse and more were showing up that should not come with the flu. My abdomen got very tender with a lot of pain and my leg hard to walk on.  The NP thought it was swelling or blockage in the intestine. She gave me antibiotics and scheduled a scan. She called that evening said no problem with intestines but my white blood count was way too high (even after being on the antibiotics for 2 days) and told me to go to the ER. I was in the hospital for 8 days.

That's a long time. VERY EXPENSIVE too without insurance wasn't it m2c?  That's twice as long as I was in the hospital after my cancer surgery i n 2008. Sounds like you were in dire circumstances. I'm glad you survived because it sounds as though it was touch-and-go. Well we all have to decide what matters most to us. Health insurance has always mattered a great deal to me. It has always been a PRIORITY and I have done without other things to ensure it. I hope you are lucky futurely. I mean that sincerely. Thank you for your reply m2c and Happy Sunday to thee. This post was edited by RosieG at February 3, 2019 7:23 AM MST

  • Not overweight, but every member of my family has high blood pressure.  So its genetic for me. I eat well, healthy meals.  Exercise and try to drink more water which is helpful.  I take a low dose of a ace inhibitor which keeps it under control.

You can't fight genetics or predisposition Cinders. But you can mitigate the effect by doing precisely what you are doing. Good job m'dear! The peculiar thing to me is that zillions of folks never read labels. They do not have a clue about the nature of the crap they ingest. Not a clue. No interest in it. Not on their radar. Their kids are held hostage to the abject ignorance and stupidity of their parents. Bad deal for the kids. I feel very sorry for them. SIGH. Thank you for your reply and Happy Saturday!  :)

Do you eat a lot of salty foods ? .....hidden salt in food is so bad and raises blood pressure so quickly.....:(

  • No salt shaker in my house.  Dad had high blood pressure when he was 23 so Mom barely used any when she cooked and no salt shaker ever on the table. We grew up not using them.  As a result I hate anything too salty, read labels for sodium content too.  I hated the Xmas ham this year it was too salty for me!  But didn't tell my big sister. lol:) Salt isn't a problem in my case but I can see  it being a problem in my cousin's case and a few others I know. So good point and thank you for you comment;)

I think it's do hard to find any real un adulterated  food items these days.....you have to stand and check every lable as things like bread seem to have their ingredients changed every week....things labeled as soda  bread or sour dough are not actually made correctly either... :(

One slice of white bread contains the equivalent of five normal packets of potato crisps or chips as I think you call them....no one says don't eat bread because of the salt content though...:(

Bread made from the endosperm part of the wheat grain only.....everything healthy like the fibrous outer parts of the grain gets put aside for animail feeds..."
The endosperm is finely milled as is fast burning when eaten....it rasise sugar levels quickly and you feel hungry again soon after eating...
We eat only low GI bread....it's so tasty and you have to chew it for ages ...thus it's slow burning and releases its engery slowly......
Thank you for asking Master Ellie....:)

Short answer. I am not eating myself to death. Neither is my family. I don't give a crap about those who are...their bodies, their lives. BTW, sugar, fats and sodium and potassium salts are needed in one's diet...just not to the extremes that many use them.
