Never really bought in to that whole "big bang" business.  Always seemed rather gratuitous and more the fruit of imagination and drama than of good sense.

So, you think the biblical explanation with Adam and Eve is the truth?

The Bible offers representational truth, symbolic truth.  True enough for how we live our lives but not for how scientists would like to see it.
While the notion of a "big bang" may satisfy and content them I think they can do better than that.

The Big Bang theory is certainly more plausible than Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

If you get a chance, watch the movie 'Lucy'. I don't have an answer to your question, but the movie brought up some good ideas.

Stephen Hawking doesn't know, didn't know and couldn't know.

    He was guessing.

I mean WAIT a MINUTE, STEVE.  Aren't you evading the question of where the Universe started?

If something came before that atom, that is what the question is asking.

WHO MADE THAT ATOM?  And what could STEPHEN HAWKING possibly know about it?  He is not GOD. He is merely a good scientist who makes a hell of a lot of errors or he would never have made it as a scientist of this stature.  He has changed his position on how the Universe started many times in his lifetime.  Which is natural.  As you learn, you grow.

There ARE humans on the earth that can explain this.  But you have to follow THEIR path and not read a book.  You have to actually practice what they preach and teach.

Then you will not need answers.  You will see the answers.

Thank you for your reply Sharon and the graphic. You have found your answers and are content and no longer seek. I have not and am not content so I shall continue questioning and seeking. Dr. Hawking certainly KNOWS far more about this stuff than I do. I think his speculations/opinions/views are as valid as any others. You have closed your mind to other possibilities BECAUSE you have found what you were looking for. I have not. Thank you for your reply. One size does not fit all people. What sates you does not do anything for me and I'm sure vice-versa. My quest may never end. Yours has. That's fine. Different strokes.

Before the big bang was a previous universe which 'crunched down' to a state of zero dimension about the size of an infinitely tiny atom perhaps .
You can google 'big bounce theory' which helps explain the infinite existence of the universe.

"Infinite" is a word human minds cannot grasp kg. At least this human mind of mine. There is a beginning and end to everything. Something has to start in order to be and everything is in the grip of entropy. The question is if something is infinite it always was, is and always will be. Now can you honestly say that you comprehend that? I don't. It is too big an idea and my capacity is limited. It makes no sense at all to me. I'm happy you are seemingly content and figger you know and grasp and comprehend. I doubt I will ever get there. Too many questions ahead. I have miles to go before I die. And I will be questioning every inch of them. Thank you for your reply and Happy Friday! :)

A start or beginning only exists in our 3 dimensional existence -does not apply in the dimension of infinity..

Now m'dear Kg that is a thought I never once thunk. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I shall now ponder upon it happily. A new thing to think about. I LOVE IT! ((hugs))

Well ... according to the Men In Black movies ... our existence is either a marble or a locker.  Or perhaps both.

According to my favorite theory, our reality is merely a highly-advanced computer simulation.
