    "Dim bulb" would be a high compliment for what Smollett has apparently done.  He was acting out because he didn't think he was paid enough - now he has no job and no pay at all.  I would say that's cutting one's nose to spite one's face.  You can bet his acting career is over.

    I admit to not following the story in huge-and-great detail -- but, in general, what he seemingly has done (as of today and what little I have read/heard), to me, has cheapened the real hurt and real pain that people have gone through who have actually been attacked in such ways.

    And the morbid-humor part of me says - - "He gives gay men a bad name."
