We're here because our moms got pregnant.  LOL

That is the physiological reason we're here Walt. What is the cosmological reason? Also you did not answer the most important part of my two-part question.  WHAT IS OUR PURPOSE? If our purpose is to procreate isn't that circular thinking? We're here because our moms got pregnant and our purpose is to procreate. That cannot possibly be a purpose in  itself can it? Thank you for your reply!  :)

I like the scientific theory that our reality is a highly-advanced computer simulation.
So our purpose?  Either the programmers want to have a simulation of how they got to where they are ... or we are a game (like SIMS).
If we are a game, that would make the players "god" ... and they may be controlling natural disasters (like in SIMS).

Personally, I believe we have no purpose imposed by a higher power.
But our self-imposed purpose should be to advance ourselves and move to the stars.

I settled this question in my own mind long ago. It comforts me. I think our purpose is to help one another. Be kind. Be helpful. Be useful. Be productive. We are all in same boat. We come from the same place (we are made of star stuff..remember?) Our destination is exactly the same. We SHOULD ALL BE ROWING TOGETHER. Maybe one day we will have evolved enough to figger that out and hate and war will disappear because there will be no need for them. I dunno. One can hope. When you don't KNOW you are free to wish. Thank you for your reply. We could all be living in a MATRIX just like the movie. Or we could all be the figment of  someone's imagination and when he/she/they tire of us we die because they stop thinking about us. One theory is as valid as another I guess in the land of "go figger...your guess is as good as mine"! If we are in a computer simulation who built it? In how many galaxies do these simulations exist? How many are there in the entire universe? Who does the maintenance and repair. All things computer-related require maintenance and repair. Inquiring minds wanna know these things Walt! :) This post was edited by RosieG at February 27, 2019 9:45 AM MST

I agree with you entirely on this one.  I guess the disagreement comes with just what we consider is "helpful".

It is interesting that in most of the science fiction I read/watch ... every civilization that reaches the technology of interstellar travel, has only 1 world government.  Except Earth.  I find it interesting that the authors seem to believe a single government is required to pool a planet's resources to reach the stars with everyone cooperating - except when it comes to Earth.  Every other planet reaches the stars by cooperation - but Earth reaches them with competition.

Makes me wonder: if competition has restricted our growth, and there is life on other planets, what if only planets with a single government reach the stars and everybody else (Earth) is planet-bound simply because they refuse to cooperate?

HA!  Regarding my last paragraph, I just read this article:

Why am I here? Why are you here? ARE you here, or are you a construct of my own imagination because I couldn't bear to be all alone?
Metaphysics is lots of fun. Cogito ergo sum - the only thing I can depend on is the existence of my own mind.

As many times as people have asked all the deep questions.   That is not the only unanswerable one they ask.

We are here for one reason. To decide if we will follow God.

Now all you have to do is discover who that really is.

We are here as a result of evolutionary process.  Our purpose is to do what nature designed for us to do: defend ourselves,  feed ourselves and reproduce.
