Colorado says they will give their electoral votes.to the winner of the national popular vote. Is this a wise move for the state?

A candidate who the state did not vote for could potentially receive the state's electoral votes.

    Stupid.
It's difficult enough to get candidates to spend any time campaigning in states without high Electoral College votes.

So the politicians of Colorado are saying ... even if 100% of our state votes for a candidate, none of those votes will count unless that person wins the national popular vote.

Makes no sense to me. Why give up what power you have?

  • I'm in favor of cutting off all Federal funds to any state refusing to adhere to the current method of electing presidents. Perhaps they would look at the legitimate means of changing such elections(Amending the Constitution) when the money dries up.

The problem is, they ARE adhering to the current method ... which leaves how Electoral College votes are appointed, up to the state.

The federal government has no power to tell states how to choose their representatives, except to guarantee a republican form of government.

I believe Walt and Not Sure are correct the distribution of the electoral votes is up to each individual state.

    Hello M2C
Let em' do it...but I don't think they have thought it through. This bill is to join a compact with 11 other states who want to do the same thing..states like California, N.Y. Mass. Etc...all red States. This will leave mostly blue and purple states to vote in a 'popular' vote, who will vote blue, thus forcing the red States to give their votes to the winner of the blue and purple states...Heck, Trump could take all 538 votes...see how they like it then..

Sounds like a good way to rustle Colorodoan's jimmies. I mean, if the people of Colorado have chosen one candidate but the state goes and gives the votes to the other candidate that other states like more then that just seems dumb and unfair to Colorado residents.
