If he were ever to consume one of my bacon-lettuce- tomato sandwiches, he would know he had been cheated by all the other sandwiches. You see, my BLTs are made with 12 grain toast and homegrown tomatoes of various varieties, such as Beefmaster, Giant Belgium, Orange Kentucky, Epstein's Big Zac, or whatever is ripe at the time. I grow about 100 tomato plants every season. The lettuce is mostly locally grown, but this year I will grow my own. I choose bacon from an Indiana producer, usually Amish farmers provide the bacon. And I never put mayonaise on it!

You had me right there with ya, until you mentioned No mayonnaise.  Still they sound exceptionally yummy. I 'll take on please (x crisp bacon please, just this side of burned) BTW, Have you tried Hellmans or Best Foods Mayonnaise.  They are the same brand just different names.

I'm sure it is delicious.  But NO BLT is complete without the mayo.

It is not a BLT it is a delicious Bacon and Tomato and lettuce sandwich.

    and WHERE IS THAT MAYO?

Mayo is death, as bad as or worse than Vegemite.  I'm having you deported to Brisbane immediately.

    :(

I'll meet you at the Bono curve this summer. You can bring me one. What is the best overall tomato. I am tired of the tasteless crap of the ones at the store.

Come on.  You are a scientist.  You know better than this.  You cannot buy a tomato that way.  It has to be GROWN in SOIL and fresh air and sun.  It needs to be ALIVE.  That is what makes it taste right.  Not the fact that it is a beefsteak or roma tomato.

I do grow them, but I stick to cherry tomatoes. The yellow sweet ones. Bh is the tomato expert.

Do you use chemicals in the soil?  DO NOT.  Use compost and you have great tomatoes.

I was raised growing tomatoes in Chicago but I do not ever grow a thing down here.  The climate sucks.

I grew them at the Naval Base in North Chicago. I had a plant grow to 11 feet long and it produced a zillion tomatoes. The only chemical I use is a nasty smelling critter repellent with natural ingredients.

Sorry, Bono is not my hangout. It's probably full of chicks like Sharonna with gallon jugs of Mayonise.  A good tomato to grow is the Beefmaster. Big plants, big tomatoes, and good flavor. Large healthy plants that seem to be fairly disease resistant.  Perhaps the best to grow in the midwest.

When the crust became really crusty and overtook the yummy soft interfolds of the sandwich.
